Why Competa?
We first stumbled across Competa in 2017 and we instantly fell in love with its charm and beauty. Following an extensive search for a new home, nowhere pulled on the heartstrings quite like Competa. With beautifully paved streets and scented flowers adorning the balconies of the white townhouses, we were instantly smitten. Suddenly, moving to Competa became a very real goal! Furthermore, having a life in hospitality with a successful UK luxury hotel, gave us the confidence to offer hospitality in Spain.
Spanish in style..
Initially, in July 2017 we purchased the newly renovated No 9 townhouse. We knew we wanted to dress the house with luxury holidays in mind yet wanted to ensure that the townhouse reflected the Spanish charm of the pueblo. Guests absolutely adore the Spanish style and you will see this in our reviews. One guest was moved to tears when staying with us for a 30th wedding anniversary because she felt it was even better than the photos.
From 1 to 3…
No 9 was very popular and so we started the search for a second townhouse. We found No 17 with the help of popular local estate agent Sergio Fernandez Properties. No 17 was literally a shell with breeze block walls, no services and it looked a little unloved. However, with encouragement and guidance from Sergio, we soon began to see its potential. Having worked with local builder Victor Roman, our visions came to fruition and we are immensely proud of the finished product. Different to No 9 but still designed with a luxury holiday experience in mind, No 17 really is just beautiful.
Still luxury but something different!
No 8, on the stunning Plazoleta square is a larger property and this will be a small hotel with a high spec luxury finish and beautiful guest rooms. Work will start on this project in 2020.

All three townhouses are located within a few steps of the Main Square, Plaza Almijara. With their high-end bed linens and towels, beautiful artworks, plunge pools, up to the minute electricals and appliances along with Netflix, Amazon Prime and fibre optic wifi they have everything you need to enjoy a fabulous holiday in Competa.

Interesting fact about No 9
In its former life No 9 housed donkeys at the back of the house. This was common practice in mountain villages, the town houses can often be found with Bodegas of one form or another, because donkeys were a common form of transport through the narrow cobbled streets.
There are not so many donkeys left nowadays, though a donkey welcomes you to the village and there are still many donkey tracks you can walk. No 9 donkeys used to enter and exit on the road behind, but there is no longer a gateway as the courtyard is now an enclosed pool. You will see in the dining area of the courtyard that there are still the original donkey ring ties and to the left is where their manger was. Donkey translates as El Burro in Spanish.
The tradition of keeping our four legged friends indoors has not completely disappeared! If you wander to the top of the village you will see a mule who pokes his head from an upstairs window in an apartment.
