La Bodeguita del Medio famous bar-restaurant in Old Havana is an icon of the Cuban traditions. Because of its meals, music and mojitos cocktails. All its walls are covered by photographs of celebrities and the signatures of its visitors such as Ernest Hemingway, Brigitte Bardot, Errol Flynn, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Diego Armando Maradona among others.

How it was born
In 1942 the Spanish Angel Martinez bought out a small grocery store named “La Complaciente”. He began to sell snacks and drinks.
At that time it was a small neighborhood market. Those kinds of stores (bodegas -is the word used for that small shops) used to be located at the corners of the streets but La Complaciente was located in the middle of the street.
Angel Martinez renamed the store as “Casa Martinez”. Its regular customers hardly distinguished it by that name. That is why Mr. Martînez decided to officially name it La Bodeguita del Medio.
